Board Directors of First Sky Group in a pose with President John Mahama
PRESIDENT JOHN Dramani Mahama has commended First Sky Group, led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Eric Seddy Kutortse, for its contribution to the country’s economy through job creation as well as its philanthropic works in the health and education sectors.
Speaking at the 23rd First Sky Group annual thanksgiving service yesterday, President Mahama applauded the company’s contribution to the country’s economy, urging the staff and management of First Sky Group to show dedication and commitment to their work.
He mentioned that following the awarding of the Atimpoku–Asikuma–Anyirawase–Ho–Denu–Aflao 117.4-kilometre road to the company, he informed the indigenes that First Sky Construction Company is a model of excellence in Ghana’s road infrastructure development; hence their roads will last for a long period of time.
“During the commissioning to start the construction of the roads, I told them that you are blessed because the contractor selected to undertake the construction is First Sky, and they are accurate. Because you can be sure of quality and speed,” he mentioned.
President Mahama also noted that the government, through the awarding of road projects to Ghanaian construction companies, during his first and second term in office, was a testament to the trust it had in the capacity and competence of indigenous companies.
“One of the things that happened when I was President in my first term was that I came into office and found out that most of the projects in the construction sector were being undertaken by foreigners. However, by the time I left office during my first term, I am proud to say that we had 22 Ghanaian construction companies that had the skill to lead other foreign companies,” President Mahama disclosed.
Additionally, he urged the staff and management of First Sky Group to show dedication and commitment to their work.
Mr. Kutortse, in his speech, highlighted the various projects it had undertaken since the establishment of First Sky Group, including the completion of the construction of 101 churches, and the employment of 6,000 workers, thereby contributing to economic growth and national development.
Additionally, he noted that the First Sky Group, through First Sky Energy, would by the end of March this year, complete a 15 megawatts power station to generate and supply power to the national grid.
The project, Mr. Kutortse said, spanned across 140-acres of land in Yendi in the Northern Region, representing confidence in Ghanaian entrepreneurship as well as its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) that focuses on affordable and clean energy.
He pledged the commitment of First Sky Group to continuously support the work of the government through strategic partnership, and expressed gratitude to the management and staff for their support over the years.
Delivering the sermon, Alex Sujith of the Thames North Assemblies of God, United Kingdom, admonished staff and management of First Sky Group to remain steadfast in the Lord and work together for the growth of the company.
Present at the event were past and present Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs), the clergy, and traditional leaders.
First Sky Group also presented a citation to the Lordina Mahama Foundation, in recognition of its philanthropic work.
