President Mahama began his ‘accounting to the people’ tour from Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region on Wednesday, July 13, 2016.
A water project at Kparigu in Nalerigu was commissioned by the president to supply potable water to the Kparigu community.
The Kparigu water project will supply the community with 45,000 gallons of water per day; and according to him, the water would be enough for the community ‘till 2029.
The president indicated that 10 stand pipes had been provided at some locations in the community so that those who cannot connect the pipes to their homes can go to the stand pipes to fetch water.
The chief of Kparigu, Sugri Mahami Abdulai, thanked the president for the water project and assured him that the facility would be put into good use by the community.
President Mahama and his entourage paid a courtesy call on the Nayiri, Nayire Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai, the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area at his palace to seek permission to embark on a tour of the area.
He made a stop-over at the Wulugu Senior High School where he promised the school authorities a girls’ dormitory.
At the Gambaga Girls’ School the president assured the authorities that the government would provide them with a borehole for them to enjoy potable water.
The president’s next port of call was the Nalerigu Health Assistants’ School where he announced that the government would absorb graduates from the institution into the public system.
He announced that the Kparigu-Shevuya road had been awarded on contract and that the contractor would start work within the next two weeks.
Electricity will also be extended to Moatan, Nabologu and Binduri, according to President Mahama.
He said he would pass on the request of a senior high school from the chief of Kparigu to the minister of education, adding that the government promised to build 200 SHS’s and had so far awarded 123 of them on contract.
Gambaga/Walewale Road
The president inspected the ongoing 27-kilometer road rehabilitation from Gambaga to Walewale, which is expected to be completed in October this year.
He congratulated the Minister of Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini and the contractor – Nagbibe Construction Company – on the good work done so far.
Sod Cutting
President Mahama cut the sod for the construction of a district educational office complex at Walewale.
He indicated that the office complex would be the centre for monitoring educational activities in the district.
According to him, the facility would improve the performance of students in their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district.
