A 28-YEAR-OLD Malian national has been lynched after failed armed robbery on a mobile money vendor at Community 4, a suburb of Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
The deceased, Awal Mohammed together with his accomplice who were face masked and wielding a pistol were said to have attacked and shot a mobile money vendor in the leg in an attempt of robbing the victim of valuables.
However, the victim raised an alarm and the deceased was immediately arrested and strung up but his accomplice managed to escape.
His corpse has since been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy but the victim however is responding to treatment at the hospital.
Confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Obenefo Darkwah, spokesman of the Tema Regional Police Command explained that the police on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, received a distress call at about 4:00pm to the effect that two young men on a motorbike, wielding a pistol had attacked and shot a mobile money vendor in the leg.
According to him, the police advanced to the scene and met the deceased unconscious after the deceased was being lynched and had asked for police assistance.
He mentioned that one Glock pistol with six rounds of ammunition was retrieved from the deceased.
DSP Darkwah further indicated that police also retrieved from the scene a facemask and one motorbike with registration number, M-19-GR 1017 which the suspects used in the criminal operation.
The victim had been rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, according to the police spokesman but Awal was pronounced dead on arrival when he was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment.
He appealed to the public to assist the command with information that will lead to the arrest of the second suspect who is currently on the run.
