THE PARAMOUNT queen mother of Asante Mampong, Nana Agyaako Dufie, has formally accepted Nana Amoaniwaa Agyeiwaa II as the queen mother of Mponua, a community near Asante Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.
The acting Chief of Mponua, Nana Kwasi Donkor, the head of the Mponua Bretuo family, Rev. I.Y. Boamah, and elders with other traditional leaders presented Nana Amoaniwaa Agyeiwaa II to the Mampong queen mother at a colourful ceremony recently for her endorsement.
Traditionally, a selected queen mother of Mponua has to be presented to the paramount queen mother of Asante Mampong for acceptance before the necessary rites can be performed for her to be recognised as queen mother.
In her brief remarks, Nana Agyaako Dufie passionately appealed to the Mponua traditional leaders to coexist peacefully and work towards promoting development of the area.
The Mampong queen mother particularly cautioned the Mponua queen mother not to use her position to lord it over her people, including the chiefs and the head of the family, but serve them in humility.
She also advised them to avoid fighting over lands in order to free the traditional area from conflict escalation which undermines peace and community development.
Expressing his excitement over the presentation ceremony, Nana Akwasi Donkor said the next thing to do would be the queen mother of Mampong coming to Effiduase to outdoor Nana Ama Amoanimaa Agyeiwaa to the people.
For his part, Rev. I. Y Boamah, who selected Nana Ama Amoanimaa Agyeiwaa II as the queen mother of Mponua, thanked God that efforts over the years to get a queen mother have ended peacefully and successfully.
“They have accepted our choice, commended us and given us a date when they will come to Effiduase to lead Nana Ama Amoanimaa Agyeiwaa II to swear the oath of allegiance,” he said.
