A 21-YEAR-old man has been found dead in an old mining pit at Hiakosi, near Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region in bizarre circumstances.
Akwasi Joshua, now deceased, was, allegedly, seen by some miners struggling to swim from the deep pit to save his life at 1:30pm on February 14, 2025.
Some of the miners, reportedly, risked their lives by jumping into the deep pit in a desperate attempt to save Joshua from drowning.
A police report from the Atwima Division in the Ashanti Region stated that when Joshua was eventually brought out from the deep pit, he had already given up the ghost.
“On 14/02/25 at 1800hrs, Ebenezer Yeboah of Manso Nkwanta called at the station and reported that on same day at 1330hrs, he was at an old mining site at Hiakosi with his workers when they spotted one Akwasi Joshua, aged 21, now deceased, struggling to swim in a pit of water.
“The workers rushed to rescue him, but he was dead after removing him,” part of the police document, which has been sighted by the DAILY GUIDE, disclosed.
According to the police, when the sad news was reported to them, they proceeded to the scene and saw the lifeless body of deceased Akwasi Joshua, lying in a supine position wearing only an army green pair of jeans trousers.
The police indicated that the body was carefully examined, but no physical marks of violence were found, adding that the body has been deposited at the Afari Community Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The case, the police said, is currently under investigation, noting that “Investigation will be extended to the person who created the said pit and what the deceased was doing at the site before the incident.”
