Emmanuel Dodzi. INSET: Yawa Zigah, with multiple stitches on her face and neck, being attended to at the hospital
The Achimota police have arrested a 52-year-old man who allegedly butchered his wife for failing to prepare fufu with light soup for supper.
Emmanuel Dodzi, a tiler, according to reports, asked the wife – Yawa Zigah, 41 – to prepare the fufu (a typical Ghanaian dish) but the woman, who reportedly claimed that the husband did not leave any housekeeping money for the day, rather instructed her daughter to prepare something else for supper.
This was said to have infuriated the husband, who was suspected to be drunk, and allegedly attacked the wife with a machete.
Madam, Zigah, a trader and queen mother of onion sellers at the Dome Market, Accra, sustained deep cuts in the head, back of her neck, left ear, cheek and both arms.
She is currently on admission at the 37 Military Hospital.
The Achimota School District Police Commander, DSP Christen Srofenyo, told this paper that the couple had been married for the past 25 years and blessed with two children and that they live in their own apartment at Parakou Estates, Dome.
Reports received at the police station indicated that on March 9, 2018, at about 6:30 pm, the woman returned from the market with her 20-year-old daughter to meet her husband already in the house.
The police commander corroborated what took place in the residence of the couple and added that sensing danger, Dodzi ran into a nearby bush to hide for sometime before reporting himself later at the Mile 7, police station.
She posited that after receiving a report from the victim’s family about the attack, investigators were assigned to the case and so they went to the Mile 7 police station to pick the suspect for questioning.
“We arraigned the suspect before the Abeka magistrate court and he has been remanded into prison custody to reappear on April 17, 2018, as investigation continues,” she maintained.
