Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) have been advised to properly manage work-related stresses they are exposed to in order to improve productivity and the quality of service to customers.
The advice was contained in a speech delivered by the ECG Accra West Regional General Manager, Ing. George Appiah-Kubi, at the regional launch of ECG’s fifth Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Week celebrations under the theme: ‘Workplace Stress; Let’s Manage It’.
Outlining some interventions made by management of the ECG to improve the working conditions of staff and reduce workplace stress, Ing. Appiah-Kubi pointed out that ECG aims at being highly compliant with international best practices in safety, health and environment.
“Due to the known negative effects of stress on productivity, the company strictly adheres to several internal policies and procedures that comprehensively ensures the utmost physical, mental and social well-being of its employees,” Ing. Appiah-Kubi reiterated.
Some of the ECG SHE interventions include a new safety health and environment policy, introduction of an environmental and social management system (ESMS) and provision of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at all ECG regional and district offices.
The Accra West Public Relations Officer (PRO), Fred Baimbill-Johnson, outlined activities lined up for the week-long annual celebrations in the region. They include a health talk on hypertension, an inter-regional safety, health and environment quiz competition, a health walk and thanksgiving service.
The 2018 National Safety, Health & Environment Week celebration was launched in Ho on November 2, 2018 by the Managing Director, Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah.
