THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, has donated 1,200 pieces of school uniforms to pupils in public schools in the constituency.
The donation, according to him, was his widow’s mite to help alleviate the financial burden of parents and guardians, and added that “it is also to make the students feel comfortable and learn.”
The MP also presented 2,000 pieces face masks, 25 cartons of hand sanitisers and 1,000 pieces of exercise books to pupils in private schools within the Manhyia North.
Authorities of the Buokrom M/A Junior High School B received the donated items on Monday on behalf of the beneficiary institutions for onward distribution.
Mr. Konadu was accompanied to the Buokrom M/A Junior High School B by his constituency executives that included Chairman Kwaku Oppong, Kwabena Amofa Sarpong, Margaret Bawumia and Tony Ameyaw Gyamfi.
The MP said he was elected to serve the people of Manhyia North and indicated that he would offer them servant leadership throughout his tenure.
According to him, education is the best tool to help bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, hence his commitment to provide the needed support to the constituents to help reach their full potential in education.
Akwasi Konadu admonished residents of Manhyia North, in particular students, to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols so as to stay safe from the deadly virus.
The Manhyia North NPP Chairman, Kwaku Oppong, praised the MP for his timely donation and indicated that it was a clear sign that finally the constituency “now has a development-oriented leader.”
Stephen Fokuo, a teacher of Buokrom MA JHS B, also said it was the first time in many years that an MP of the area had made such a massive donation to schools in the area.
