In a significant development ahead of the 2024 general elections, Ghana’s two major political parties, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), have announced dates for the launch of their manifestos.
The NPP will unveil its manifesto on August 18 in Takoradi, Western Region, while the NDC will follow suit on August 24 in the Central Region.
Both parties have constituted committees to oversee the planning and execution of their respective launch events.
The manifesto launches come at a time when the country is experiencing a decline in inflation, which dropped to 20.9% in July, a 1.9 percentage point decrease from June’s figure of 22.8%.
The Ghana Statistical Service reported a decline in both food and non-food inflation, which may influence the parties’ economic policies.
As the political landscape heats up, Ghanaians await the parties’ proposals for addressing the country’s challenges.
The manifestos are expected to outline the parties’ visions for the future and their plans for tackling issues such as economic growth, job creation, healthcare, and education.
The NDC has already launched its Youth Manifesto in Accra, signalling its commitment to addressing the concerns of Ghana’s youth.
The NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi is expected to draw significant attention, given the region’s strategic importance.
With the elections drawing near, the manifesto launches will be closely watched by political analysts, civil society organizations, and the electorate.
The parties’ ability to present convincing and achievable plans will likely influence the outcome of the polls.
