Marshallans Give To Accra Psychiatric Hospital

The Central Accra Region of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall carried out its annual charity and development services at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital at Adabraka on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 donating food items and toiletries to the inmates of the facility.

The donation, which is in line with the Noble Order’s fundamental principles and tenets, was undertaken in collaboration with the Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES), the NGO and development wing of the Catholic friendly society.

MAREDES was set up to mobilize both financial and material resources to support the needy and deprived in society.

The charity event was hosted by Accra Central’s Council 74 and Court 67, led by the Grand Knight, Bro. Amos Twum, and the Noble Lady, Sis. Rosina Buah.

Worthy Bro. Joseph Owusu-Ansah and Respected Lady Sis. Charlotte B-Plange, on behalf of the Regional Grand Knight and the Regional Noble Lady, presented the items to the hospital.

The items, valued at GH¢50,000, comprised bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, clothes, a double door refrigerator, soft drinks, beverages, bags of sugar, biscuits, mattresses, detergents, deodorants, sweeping and scrubbing brushes, buckets, and toiletries.

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Boateng, Associate Cathedral Administrator, led the Marshallans to pray for the inmates and the staff of the hospital.

Worthy Bro. Joseph Owusu-Ansah said, “We are here today to offer our widow’s mite, trusting that it will help relieve some of the challenges you encounter in the day to day running of this hospital.

“We are here, not only to offer material gifts, we have also come with our gifts of prayer, which you have just witnessed, our gifts of companionship as well as our gifts of encouragement. Your team is doing a fantastic job, and we encourage you to keep it up, even as you have ups and downs,” he stated.

The Regional MAREDES Officer, Bro. Fred Mac Bruce and his counterpart, Sis. Sera Naadang, highlighted the charitable activities of the NGO, noting that MAREDES recently provided GH¢130,000 worth of relief items to the Akosombo Dam disaster victims and GH¢10,000 cash to an orphanage in Kumasi.

They encouraged members of the fraternity to continuously give to the needy as it is the sign of love to humanity.

Senior Nursing Officer at the Hospital, Bridgit Ayatey, on behalf of the inmates, thanked the Marshallans for the donation and asked God’s blessings for them.

According to her, the Hospital needs the assistance of charitable organizations and individuals in order to function effectively, while calling on others to emulate the kind gesture of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall.
