Mawuena Dumor Goes Home

Pallbearers with the remains of the late Mawuena Adzo Dumor

The late former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mawuena Adzo Dumor, has been laid to rest in a private burial ceremony by her family over the weekend.

Preceding the burial, was a well-attended requiem mass held in her honour at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra, with dignitaries such as Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, running mate to the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama; Alan Kyeremanten, former Minister of Trade and Industry and leader of the Butterfly Movement; revered legal expert, Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata; members of the diplomatic corps; captains of industry, among others present.

Mawuena Adzo Lumor died in April this year after a period of protracted illness, according to sources close to the family.

She was an astute corporate executive who exemplified selflessness, dedication and integrity while serving in various portfolios across several organizations and agencies.

She became, in 2018, the first woman to chair the board of the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel Ghana, drawing on her vast experience in both private and public sectors.

Prior to that, she broke another barrier when she was appointed the first female substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) from April 2013 – January 2017.

Prof. Ernest Dumor, father of the deceased, in a heart-touching tribute said: “Let the story be told, I’m very proud of you, Mawuena!!! You should not be going at this time but God chose to take you away. I will miss you sorely, but God is good. He has been good to our family and to you as that little girl I held in my arms when I returned to Ghana.”

He went on to charge attendees and by extension, all Ghanaians to always seek freedom and justice for all persons especially those in disadvantaged positions, saying those were the hopes and aspirations of the late Mawuena.
