Popular Ghanaian rapper, AMG Medikal, has called on the government to make conscious efforts to invest in the Ghanaian music industry to help boost the image of the industry.
The ‘Omo Ada’ hitmaker pointed out that the music industry is the largest industry in Ghana, and that the little investment one makes guarantees profitable returns.
The rapper, who wants to be counted among the best in the Ghanaian music scene, says when the government invests in the industry, it will make it more lucrative and attractive to private investors.
He noted that if the government could reach out to other organisations and industries in the country, it should give similar attention to the creative arts industry.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, he stressed that investing in music would help the industry break into the highly competitive global music market, which required funding.
“Government should really pay attention to Ghanaian music because Ghanaian musicians take the name of Ghana across the world. Like the way Burna Boy and Wizkid got a Grammy, it has lifted Nigeria’s name because at the end of the day, even if you go to America now and you mention their names, they will be known for their Grammy win. It all contributes to recognition for Nigeria,” he said.
“If the government, Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) can really pay attention and invest more in our entertainment sector, it will really help,” the rapper added.
He further lamented on the lack of structures to facilitate and grow the music business in the country, which according to him, is impeding the growth of musicians and other creative people in general.
“It is not easy to be a musician in Ghana. There’s no system. If you’re shooting a video, you have to inject your own resources to achieve your goals…” he indicated.
