The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has asked President Akufo-Addo and for that matter the government to urgently make the report of the Commission of Inquiry public.
Making the request at a press conference yesterday in Parliament yesterday, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said it would be in the interest of good governance, openness, truthfulness and transparency that the report of the Commission of Inquiry is made public to enable the nation verify that the Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) on the creation of the regions before Parliament is reflective of the contents of the report.
“We are urging President Nana Akufo-Addo to keep faith with his promise for transparent and accountable governance,” the minority leader said, adding that making the Justice Brobbey Commission Report public would be an important benchmark on which similar matters would be modeled in the future.
The minority leader added that making the Justice Brobbey Report public would also help to shed light on the scope of the proposed referendum since there have been heated debates in the public as to who is entitled to vote in the referendum.
“We think that the Commission of Inquiry’s Report should not be the exclusive preserve of a few but it must be opened up to the entire nation to enable us gain insight into the thinking of the Commission and the constitutionality of its recommendations and to determine whether the Constitutional Instrument laid in Parliament truly reflects the recommendations of the Commission,” the minority leader stated.
