Ghanaian pageantry noted for promoting the rich cultural heritage and tourist sites in the country, Miss Tourism Ghana 2021, has been launched.

Miss Tourism Ghana is undoubtedly one of the most influential beauty pageants in the country that grooms young ladies to be abreast with the country’s culture and traditions.

The pageant, fully endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism and Ghana Tourism Authority, supports government’s tourist programmes, seeks various avenues to promote and revamp various tourism sites as well as discover new tourism potentials in Ghana to promote abroad.

The launch which was on the theme, “Promoting Ghana’s Tourism Destinations, Cultural and Natural Resources”, on Wednesday April 14, 2021, at the Tang Palace Hotel, saw dignitaries from the Ghana Tourism Authority, Year of Return Ghana, and representatives from associate sponsors including the Savannah Regional Minister in attendance.

In her address, Mrs. Delphine Brew-Hammond, Director of the Miss Tourism Ghana organisation, said one of the goals of the organisation is to empower young ladies to be role models to the younger generation while acting as ambassadors of domestic and national tourism.

Every year, special attention is given to a region and for this year, Savannah Region, one of the newly created regions of the Akufo-Addo-led administration received the baton.

“When we went to the international world, we learnt that a baton is passed on to host countries every year, so this year, the baton is being given to the Savannah Region to serve as host region. We are in high spirits that next year, the baton will be given to another regional master who will take over from you,” Mrs. Delphine Brew-Hammond said.

Receiving the honours, the Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril, expressed his appreciation for Savannah Region being chosen as host of this year’s Miss Tourism pageant. He also assured the organisation of the region’s unwavering support since this year’s theme highlighted natural resources, a factor the region was well known for.

Unveiling the theme for this year’s pageantry was Deputy Chief Executive, General Services of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Isaac Adomako Mensah, who highlighted the authority’s collaboration with the organisation to push one common goal; promoting domestic tourism and encouraging the youth to venture into tourism.

Speaking to NEWSONE, Queen Nayram Tay, winner of Miss Tourism Ghana 2020, said that their project which focused on promoting domestic tourism was not fully executed due to the global pandemic, coronavirus, however, with the help of the two runner ups, Jennifer Deku and Zainab Abdulai, they are in hopes of encouraging the youth to get more involved in promoting domestic tourism during the few months left of their reign.
