TWO SUSPECTED highway robbers, Rikwaa Garriba, 30 and Abubakari Mahamadu, 33 who were arrested on the Kintampo Buipe Highway by a joint military patrol team on a hunch had their cups full when the phones they had stolen from the victims rang in their (robbers) pocket.
They are currently in the hands of the BA Police helping in their investigations. Narrating the incident to the paper, Chief Inspector Kingsley Oppong, BA Police PRO said, the police patrol team had information that highway robbers had attacked some passengers travelling to Buipe and other areas in the Northern Region. He said the team quickly moved to the area (Portor and Buipe) and started combing the bushes. Garriba and Mahamadu were arrested in the area upon suspicion though the passengers and their vehicles had left the scene. He said seven mobile phones were found on them.
When the passengers were invited back, they were made to call their phones that were stolen from them. He said when the calls were made; the phones retrieved from the robbers started ringing confirming the police’s suspicion that the two were actually the robbers who had attacked the passengers. He said the 7 phones were found on Garriba.
The police spokesman said preliminary investigations showed that the two were not the only persons engaged in the robbery so the police were looking for the rest. He appealed to residents around the area to volunteer information to the police to enable them arrest the others. The incident, he revealed, happened on April 12, 2018 at about 11pm.
