Movenpick Trains Security On Fire Safety

Michael Rathgeb

Movenpick Hotel, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), on Tuesday conducted a fire drill for security personnel of the institution to become fire wardens.
It was aimed at checking the effectiveness of the security system of the hotel, as well as equipping the team with the necessary skills needed during fire outbreak even before the intervention of fire officers.

Fire was set up by the fire team to evacuate both the staff and the residents from the building during the exercise.

As part of the training, there was a simulation exercise for the security staff who handled the situation with a professional touch.

The second-in-command of Ministry Fire Station, DO3 Daniel Parry, said the move by Movenpick was commendable, adding that it was in compliance with GNFS L.I.

“This exercise is supposed to be done twice every year and has been part of L.I which indicates that every institution must have fire wardens trained, test their equipment and personnel readiness if there is any action.”

DO3 Parry pointed out that GNFS is always ready to train hospitality institutions to be equipped with the skills needed to either put off or control fire during emergency fire disaster before it spreads.

He called on institutions offering hospitality services to ensure that fire safety tips are always explained to their guests.

Responding to the recommendations made by the Fire Service officials, the General Manager of Movenpick Hotel, Michael Rathgeb, stated that the exercise would be evaluated with the fire warden team and adjustments would be made when necessary to ensure the safety of guests.

He noted that though the fire drill exercise was being held every six months by his outfit, there would be another training coming off in the next two weeks.

Mr. Rathgeb mentioned that his outfit had rewritten and updated the drill procedure and wanted to see if it was practicable.
