The KATH building taking shape. INSET: The Caucus Chairperson, Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa & Caucus Secretary, Eugene Boakye Antwi, MP for Subin, presenting the cheque to First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo
The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in parliament has donated an amount of GH¢50,000 towards the ‘Save-A-Mother, Save-A-Child’ project of First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
The presentation of the amount was in fulfillment of a pledge made by the NPP MPs to support the initiative of the first lady towards the construction of a new maternity, as well as Mother & Baby Unit (MBU) for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Rebecca Akufo-Addo, in partnership with the Multimedia Group Limited, has been rallying support for a GH¢10 million facility at KATH to save the lives of unborn babies and their mothers while awaiting the completion of the 41-year-old structure to ease congestion at the facility.
The ‘Save a Child, Save a Mother’ project has, so far, raised over GH¢6.1m and has in addition to the amount raised an outstanding amount of cash pledges of GH¢1,489,500, yet to be redeemed by organisations and individuals, according to Deloitte & Touche, following two fundraising events in Accra and Kumasi.
The project has also received in-kind pledges and donations, including bags of cement, electrical cables, windows, pipes, babies’ cots, hospital beds and incubators.
