MTTU Not Money Making Venture – DCOP Atingani

The Director-General in-charge of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), DCOP Maxwell Atingani, has admonished selected personnel not to enrich themselves through the restructured department.

According to him, anybody, who indulges in any unethical acts and drags the name of the service into disrepute, would be shown the exit.

“The police administration, as part of the formation of the new MTTD, is going to put its radars on you and anyone found in any unprofessional act will be dealt with accordingly.”

He made this known during the commencement of a five-day training and orientation programme for personnel selected as part of the restructuring of the MTTD at the National Police Training School in Accra yesterday.

As part of the restructuring process, a total of 632 personnel were selected for the formation of the new MTTD.

The Inspector-General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, upon assumption of office, announced that the restructuring of the MTTD formed part of his vision to turn the police service into a world-class police service.

As part of the selection process, personnel with the zeal to be part of the new MTTD were allowed to apply.

A total of 950 applications were received from some MTTU personnel and other personnel from various departments of the service.

The applicants were received by officials in charge of the restructuring process and they were taken through the selection process, including examination and interview.

A total of 740 passed the examinations out of the 950 personnel.

The final 632 selected after an interview from Accra alone are currently being trained.

At the opening ceremony for the commencement of the training process, DCOP Atingani congratulated personnel for being part of the history of the restructured MTTD of the Ghana Police Service.

“It is expected that every personnel from the MTTD should be seen in the traditional dress of white tunic, compe, black trousers and the essence is to show unique identify of traffic officers among others and also to allow the personnel to be seen by motorists in the course of duty.

The Director-General of MTTD said the current administration is in the process of procuring the right tools and accoutrement for use by the personnel so that the work of the department can meet international standards.

Personnel would be taken through topics such as the structure of the MTTD, mandate and objectives, ethics integrity and professionalism of traffic police officers, stress management, demonstration and use of traffic enforcement equipment, traffic control and management, accident investigations, reconstruction analysis, how to build accident crash dockets, among others.

He entreated personnel to take the theoretical aspects of the programme seriously to increase their knowledge on the field in the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations without fear or favour.
