My Husband Died Of Terminal Disease – John Kumah’s Wife

Apostle Lilian and the late John Ampontuah Kumah

Wife of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, has broken her silence over the circumstances leading to her husband’s death on March 7, 2024 at the Suhum Government Hospital.

Granting a heartfelt interview on local radio station, Asaase Radio, John Kumah’s widow explicitly stated that her husband, who was the Deputy Finance Minister of the country, died of a terminal illness and not food poisoning as is being speculated in the media.

She said her late husband had been battling with a terminal disease for almost a year now, explaining that his condition was diagnosed in August 2023 when she, together with her late husband, went to Germany for a medical examination.

Apostle Lilian Kumah pointed out that John Kumah was diagnosed with a blood-related disease, adding that throughout all the medical examination and treatment of her husband in Germany and Ghana, none of the doctors they encountered mentioned the issue of poisoning of her husband.

“Right from day one since he was diagnosed in Germany, I have been part of the medical processes my husband went through, and no one, none of the doctors ever told me that my husband’s medical situation was because of poisoning.

“I have all the medical reports both from Germany and Ghana, and food poisoning has never been mentioned in any of the reports,” John Kumah’s widow added.

She said it was therefore unfortunate and discouraging that people including Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, are speculating about her husband’s death in this time of mourning for the family.

“The speculation saddens me more than the pain of his death because it is unfortunate and discouraging,” she said.

She said such a serious allegation about the death of someone who had served the country needed to be probed by the security agencies for them to provide evidence for their unsubstantiated claims about the death of John Kumah.

“Why is it that someone (referring to Captain Smart) has been this bold to claim that he knows for a fact that a person like John Kumah who has served his country virtually all his life, was poisoned, while he was working for his country and party (New Patriotic Party, NPP), why should we sit down and not bring that person to book?

“If it is true that a person who is not dead but alive claims that he knows how my husband died and that he was poisoned, and that person is still moving around for the past three weeks, it hurts me. It saddens me and I do not know how best to express my frustrations about these false claims by Captain Smart,” Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah said.

“If there are laws in this country concerning such false claims, I think this is the time for the leadership of the land to bring that wicked person (Captain Smart) to book to prove his false claims and to point out the persons who were involved in the poisoning of my late husband,” Apostle Mrs. Kumah further stated.

She also lashed at Nigel Gaisie for making false prophecies when he was aware of her husband’s ailment since last year.

Recounting her husband’s last moments on earth, she said Dr. John Kumah died at about 12:40pm at the Suhum Government Hospital, after an ambulance he was travelling in was diverted to the Suhum medical facility when the doctor on board noticed that Dr. Kumah’s condition was deteriorating.
