The National Conference of Muslim Kings, Muslim Paramount Chiefs, and Imams (NACOKINGS) is appealing to the government to consider the extension of the holidays of Muslim Annual Festivals in the country such as the Eidil-Fitr and Edil-Adha which Muslims are given only one day to observe.
According to them, Eidil-Adha is a Muslim festival during which Muslims observe the Eid and its subsequent three(3) days of slaughtering activities while Eidil-Fitr on the other hand is a festival whose celebration is based upon the sighting of the moon and in most cases, the moon is either sighted on the 29th of Ramadan or 30th of Ramadan making it impossible for Muslims to predetermine the actual day of the Eid.
“ Having explained the above circumstances and scenario, we are by this appealing to government to consider granting at least an additional one day to make it two-days national holidays during both Eid festivals.”
The group noted that Ghana is a multi-religious state and Islam is the second biggest faith in the country adding that Muslims, therefore, deserve that opportunity as far as democracy is concerned.
The Secretary of the National Conference of Muslim Kings, Muslim Paramount Chiefs and Imams (NACOKINGS), Abdul-Razzaag Is-Haaq Uthmaan, revealed that His Royal Majesty, Nayiri Abdullahi Mahami Sheriga Naa Buahigu, His Royal Majesty, Ndan Ya Na Abukari Mahama, His Royal Majesty, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa I, His Royal Majesty, Wa Naa, Fuseini Seidu Pielpuo IV, and His Royal Majesty, Bimbilla Gbanglana, Yakubu Andani Dasana are all part of the group and will be grateful if the government can grant their request.
He also indicated that the National Chief Imam, His Eminence, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharabutu has given his blessings to the request of the group.
