President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the chiefs and people of the Greater Accra Region of his support at all times.
Even though the elections are over, he said his doors remain open to chiefs anytime they need him.
The president-elect said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Ga Traditional Council at Dodowa yesterday.
He was accompanied by his wife, Rebecca, who is a native of Ga State, as well as national and regional leaders of the party.
He thanked the chiefs for their support during his electioneering campaign for the presidency.
“I came to thank you the chiefs and people in the Greater Accra Region for what you have done for me because what we came to ask of you, you did for us,” he stated.
He said it was evident that the chiefs and people in the region voted massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because the party’s parliamentary seats had increased from 14 to 21 out of the 34 seats in the region; while he secured 53 percent of the popular votes as presidential candidate of the party.
Nana Akufo-Addo said, “We are now the majority party in Greater Accra.”
“In such an important job as this, I would need the advice of eminent persons like you. You are the traditional rulers of the Ga State. If I do something which is not in order, please do not hesitate to point it out to me. My doors are always open to you. I want all of you to help me so we can do a good job for all Ghanaians.”
He therefore asked the chiefs who he considers his in-laws (due to his marriage to Rebecca) to count on him whenever the need arises.
In the entourage were party chiefs, including Acting General Secretary, John Boadu; Regional Chairman, Ishmael Ashitey; Professor Mike Oquaye; Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson; Nii Ayikoi Otoo; Laud Commey; Nii Ayitey Boafo; some of the NPP elected Members of Parliament in the region, as well as those who failed their parliamentary bids.
In a speech, President of the Ga Traditional Council and Osu Mantse, Nii Okwei Kinka Duwuona VI, on behalf of the Council, thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for his show of respect and gratitude, promising to give him the needed support.
Nii Dowuona stated, “You called on us before the election, and you have called on us again after your victory. This shows us that you hold us in high esteem and we thank you for that. Whatever we can do to help your presidency succeed, we will do it. Ghana must succeed so we can create a brighter future for our children.”
He took the opportunity to call for an end to the needless attacks by purported supporters of the NPP on National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in certain parts of the country.
He said the forceful seizure of public facilities like toilets and tollbooths must stop.
The incoming First Lady, Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo, thanked the chiefs and people of the region for the massive support they gave to her husband and the NPP on December 7.
She urged the chiefs and the queen mothers to call on her anytime, reiterating that her husband would fulfill his pledges to the region.
