Nana Attends AU Summit

President Akufo-Addo left the country yesterday to attend the 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital.

The meeting of the Heads of State under the theme, ‘Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in the Youth’ would start from 3-4 July 2017.

A statement issued by Communications Director at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin said “issues to be discussed and agreed on include institutional reforms of the AU, roadmap of practical steps to silence guns in Africa by 2020, the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and the implementation of Agenda 2063 – “the strategic framework for the socio-economic transformation of the continent over the next 50 years.”

The President was accompanied on the trip by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Anyaa-Sowutuom and officials at the presidency and Foreign Ministry.

He was escorted to the airport by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Major-General Obed Akwa, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu and others.

President Akufo-Addo and his delegation are expected in Ghana tomorrow, Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
