President Akufo-Addo and wife, Rebecca

President Akufo-Addo yesterday clocked 78, a date on which varied felicitations were extended to the First Gentleman.

His Facebook page was awash yesterday with great pictures of him and the First Lady and the cutting of a cake.

Appointees and well-wishers posted felicitations to commemorate the occasion on radio and social media.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, tweeted his greetings thus, “On behalf of my humble self and your MMDCEs in the Greater Accra Region, we seize the opportunity of your special day to celebrate you.

“With your visionary leadership and uncompromising priority on developing the human resource capacity of the Ghanaian people, every Senior High School and TVET child has got free access to education. “Your iconic social intervention projects are far-reaching and gradually building the blocks for industrialisation and job creation, especially the youth.

“For these and many more, we salute you as our champion on your special day, and we wish you a happy birthday, and a blissful new year with good health and wisdom.”

The President was born on March 29, 1944, to a former President and member of the Big Six, Edward Akufo-Addo and Adeline Akufo-Addo.

A lawyer and politician, his tenure as Attorney General from 2001 to 2003 saw the decriminalisation of the Criminal Libel Law to enhance press freedom in the country.

He assumed office as President on January 7, 2017, after winning the 2016 elections.

He is into his second and last term as President.
