President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo left Accra Saturday night for London, United Kingdom, to attend the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
He was accompanied by his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo; Minister for
Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway;
Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen; Minster for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba; Minister for Business Development, Awal Mohammed and some officials from the presidency and the foreign ministry.
He and his entourage touched down at London’s Heathrow Airport early Sunday morning and were met on arrival by British government officials.
A statement from the presidency signed by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, said the meeting, which starts today, Monday, 16th April, and ends on Friday, 20th April, under the theme, ‘Towards a Common Future,’ would afford the leaders of governments in the Commonwealth the opportunity to “address the shared global challenges we face, and agree to actions on how to create a better future for all.”
On the sidelines of the Summit, President Akufo-Addo is expected to hold meetings with British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson; leader of the Labour Party and of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn; Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William.
President Akufo-Addo would also deliver the keynote address at the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce Investment Summit, speak at the Malaria Summit, hosted by Bill Gates, attend the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council Business Forum and, on Saturday, 21st April, 2018, deliver the keynote address at the London School of Economics’ Africa Summit, on the theme, “Africa at Work: Educated, Employed and Empowered.”
President Akufo-Addo and members of the delegation are expected to return home on Sunday, 22nd April, 2018.
