Dr. Yaw Adutwum unveiling the plaque
PRESIDENT AKUFO-Addo on Tuesday said government will invest more in the education sector to ensure the training of the right human resources required for the development of the nation.
The President disclosed this in an address read on his behalf by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, at the launch of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) at Adako-Jachie in the Ashanti Region, who said the huge investment government has made since 2017 for the TVET sector was due to the crucial role it is playing in the country’s transformation agenda.
He commended the German and the Chinese governments, as well as other agencies, both local and international, for their support towards government’s effort at transforming the sector for the training of the critical manpower needed to support the growth of the industrial sector.
According to the President, the huge investment made so far in the sector is due to the fact that it is a game-changer, if properly implemented.
He commended the Education Ministry and all other stakeholders who played various roles to ensure smooth inauguration of the commission.
Deputy Minister for Education, Gifty Twum Ampofo, said the TVET sector stood the chance of turning the nation’s economy around, as well as changing the unemployment situation, since most of the TVET graduates could create jobs and employ others.
She said improving activities and gains in the sector required the collective efforts of all sectors, so the right training tools, learning environment, and other requirements would be made available for the development of the training institutions.
The commission was established by the Education Regulatory Bodies ACT 2020 (ACT 1023) to regulate, promote, and administer technical and vocational education and training for transformation, innovation and sustainable development in Ghana.
Director-General for CTVET, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, lauded President Akufo-Addo for the interest he has in the TVET, and praised him for the huge investment made in revamping and retooling all TVET institutions and technical universities nationwide.
He was upbeat that with the investment made so far, coupled with the kind of training received by the personnel across the country, there was no way the sector could not improve the fortunes of Ghana.
The event also saw the launch of the commission’s new logo and the inauguration of a newly constructed workshop at the Kumasi Technical University campus at Adako-Jachie.
