Nana To Speak At SOTF 2024

President Nana Akufo-Addo is scheduled to speak at the Summit of the Future (SOTF) slated for September 22 to 23, 2024 at the United Nations, (UN) New York.

President Akufo-Addo, during the summit would be delivering Ghana’s position paper and share ideas and solutions to issues such as climate change, geopolitical conflicts, and social unrest, which require collective action to solve under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

United Nations Resident Coordinator, Charles Abani who announced this, expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the SDG Advisory Unit for their efforts in preparing Ghana’s position paper for the upcoming summit.

Mr. Abani emphasised the importance of Ghana’s voice in shaping not only its own future but also that of Africa.

“This summit provides an unparalleled opportunity for Ghana to share its unique perspectives and engage in meaningful dialogue with international partners,” he stated.

He noted that the UN’s support in facilitating consultations has been crucial in fostering inclusive dialogue and innovative solutions tailored to Ghana’s needs and those of the continent.

Highlighting Ghana’s commitment to the SDGs and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, Mr. Abani praised the nation’s role in Pan-African leadership.

“The President will conclude his tenure as an emeritus champion of the SDGs, showcasing Ghana’s dedication to shaping both regional and global agendas,” he added.

Mr. Abani pointed out that the summit is a critical moment for Africa to unite and advocate for reforms in international financial architecture, particularly to address the challenges faced by developing countries.

“This is an opportunity for Africa to stand together and make our voices heard,” he said.

Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Prof. Gyan Baffour stated that Ghana is eager to join the Summit.

“This means that we must be proactive in our approach and form a new social compact by ensuring that the goals and targets set under the SDGs are properly implemented and supported to give the young and future generations a brighter future to look forward to.”
