THE MINISTER for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, has hailed teachers, stressing that the proper development of the country largely rests on them.
According to him, teaching is an essential component in nation-building all over the world, hence the strongest need to support teachers to deliver on their mandates at all times.
In this regard, he has assured of government’s continuous efforts to contribute to improve the lives of teachers in order to help them to positively transfer knowledge to students.
“You are a great asset to our nation, and I assure you that my government will not let you down,” Napo assured teachers.
He was giving a speech during the 11th Congregation for the 2018 Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) Graduands of the St. Monica’s College of Education, Mampong, in the Ashanti Region on Saturday.
According to the minister, the various reforms currently ongoing in the educational sector were meant to improve quality teaching and learning in the country.
“Government’s reforms in teacher education form part of a wider scope of reforms at all levels to ensure that our education delivery system meets the needs of a modern 21st century that produces skilled, confident, competitive citizens to power its industrialization,” he said.
According to him, the various reforms are mainly centered on “teacher education because we believe that education reforms would be meaningless without placing the teacher at its heart”.
Napo stated that government would also continue to invest heavily in the educational sector in order to help accelerate the developmental agenda of the country.
He also entreated teachers to take full advantage of the advancement of technology to improve their delivery and inculcate constant reading culture and discipline in their pupils to enable them improve.
