Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, has predicted a third successive electoral defeat for John Mahama, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on December 7.
Addressing party members in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region on Sunday, he stated categorically that the NDC presidential candidate cannot win the upcoming presidential election, which is a few months away.
According to him, the NPP, led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would retain political power and continue with the splendid works of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Napo also predicted that the NDC after losing the impending elections, would stay in opposition for a long time, pointing out that Dr. Bawumia’s good works as president would lead to future electoral victories for the ruling NPP.
“The NDC will surely remain in opposition for a long time because after the 2024 elections, the NPP will win the future elections in the country,” he said, noting that the NDC failed in political office so they don’t deserve another chance.
“Under the NDC, there was dumsor which destroyed businesses and led to severe hardships,” he reminded Ghanaians, asking, “what is the NDC coming to political office again to do. Are they coming to promote dumsor?”
Slams NDC’s Tribal Politics
Napo also descended heavily on the NDC leadership for always playing tribal politics to win elections in these modern times, saying the “NDC always play tribal cards that the NPP will not allow a northerner to lead the party as flagbearer.
“Now, Dr. Bawumia, who is from the north, has been successfully elected as the NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential elections to put the NDC to shame,” adding that the NDC has no vision to transform the country.
Speaking at the official inauguration of the Ashanti Regional NPP Campaign Working Committees and Women’s Conference in Kumasi on Sunday, Napo appealed to the electorate to reject the NDC and John Mahama once again.
He was of the view that whilst the NPP formulate policies to transform the country and present same to the electorate to win their votes, the NDC, surprisingly, always indulges in tribal politics, which should be rejected by all-and-sundry.
Light and Darkness
Napo also likened the impending 2024 election to light and darkness, saying that the NPP stands for light, which is total transformation and happiness, adding that the NDC also stands for darkness, which is hardship “so vote for the NPP and enjoy.”

Napo also said his recent tour of palaces of the various chiefs in the country has yielded positive results, stressing that all the traditional leaders he has visited welcomed him with open arms, adding that Dr. Bawumia’s message to develop the country has also been well received.
Party gurus in the Ashanti Region such as Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, NPP regional and constituency executives as well as party members and sympathisers, were present at the programme.
