Ruby Cocaine Dumps Ghana?

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the Interior Ministry has received an application from the convicted drug dealer, Nayele Ametefe aka Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, declaring her intention to renounce her Ghanaian citizenship.

The Ghanaian woman, who was busted with cocaine at the Heathrow Airport in London and subsequently sentenced to jail in the UK for drug trafficking, has written to the Government of Ghanaian to renounce her citizenship.

In a letter addressed to the Interior Ministry some weeks ago, Ametefe, who holds both Ghanaian and Austrian passports, is asking the Ghanaian authorities not to consider her as a Ghanaian any longer.

However, sources at the ministry told DAILY GUIDE last night that the officials were unsure of the source of the letter since Ruby is currently serving a jail term in London; adding that her signature could not be verified.

It’s not clear why Ruby Adu-Gyamfi will want to turn her back on Ghana, the country of her birth.

According to sources, she might have opted to dump Ghana in order to cut short the number of years she has to spend in jail since she stands the chance of prisoner transfer as an Austrian citizen.

She travelled from Accra on November 9, 2014 with Austrian passport and therefore, she is at liberty to switch citizenship.

Media reports also suggested that the system in Austria generally allows for the early release of prisoners. Often, first time offenders are allowed to serve half of their term and then granted a pardon. The Executive Court can also release a prisoner at its own discretion.

Ruby was convicted by the Isleworth Crown Court in London in January 2015 to eight years and eight months in prison, having been arrested on November 10 at the Heathrow Airport for attempting to enter the UK with 12.5 kilograms of cocaine.
