NDC Fights EC In Court Over Keche’s Wife Parliamentary Ambition

The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its legal fight against the Electoral Commission (EC) by filing a fresh writ at the Sekondi High Court.

This move seeks to overturn a court injunction that has hindered the recognition of Joana Gyan Cudjoe, wife of musician, Keche as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.

Background of the Dispute

The EC’s refusal to recognize Cudjoe stems from a May 13, 2024, High Court ruling in Sekondi, which placed an interlocutory injunction on Joana’s candidacy.

However, the EC has maintained its stance, sparking months of contention between the NDC and the EC.

Recent Court Ruling

On October 31, 2024, the Accra High Court dismissed the NDC’s application for an injunction to halt the EC’s ballot paper printing process and notice of poll issuance for the Amenfi Central parliamentary election.

The court cited pending orders related to the matter, deeming immediate action premature.

NDC’s Response

Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, explained that the court’s interpretation of the standing injunction left them no choice but to challenge it.

“The judge referred to an old injunction, which we argue is no longer relevant,” he stated.
