NDC Files Petition For Removal Of Dr Frank Serebour As GMA President

In a shocking move, Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, a campaign member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has submitted a formal petition calling for the removal of Dr. Frank Serebour, President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

This development comes on the heels of the GMA’s decision not to participate in the planned nationwide strike against illegal small-scale mining, known as galamsey, on October 10.

Dr. Vishnu Nene, a vocal supporter of NDC leader John Dramani Mahama, alleges that Dr. Serebour decided without consulting the National Executive Council or the General Assembly.

This, according to Dr. Nene, has brought the Association into disrepute and made it appear inconsistent in the eyes of the public.

Background of the Dispute

The GMA had initially declared support for Organised Labour’s fight against galamsey but opted out of the strike citing a lack of a clear roadmap and timelines.

Dr. Serebour made this announcement at the 22nd Annual General and Scientific Conference with the Medical Superintendent’s Group.

Expert Reactions

Many experts view the Labour Union’s call as politically motivated rather than a genuine national concern.

This development has sparked debate about the intersection of politics and professional associations in Ghana.
