Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, Shatta Wale
Media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, has alleged that dancehall star, Shatta Wale, was used by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for political gain and later abandoned.
Speaking on his programme in a video shared on X on August 14, 2025, Afrifa-Mensah claimed that Shatta campaigned for John Mahama and the NDC ahead of the 2024 elections, helping them secure power.
He further alleged that after the party’s victory, the government has been using the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to silence the musician.
“They have used Shatta Wale and dumped him… Now EOCO is being used to shut him up so he cannot criticise the government,” he said.
The comments come amid ongoing controversy between Shatta Wale and EOCO, which began in June 2025 when EOCO seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from his residence in Trassaco Valley, Accra.
EOCO, acting on a request from the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice, said the car was linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian American serving an 86-month prison term in the United States for a $4.7 million fraud scheme.
The agency stated the vehicle was purchased with proceeds from the crime and was needed for victim restitution.
Shatta Wale has denied any involvement in the fraud, saying he bought the vehicle for $150,000 from Kwabena Adu-Boahene, a former National Signals Bureau officer, and had no knowledge of its alleged criminal ties.
He also accused EOCO of staging an “armed raid” on his home, a claim EOCO refuted, stating the seizure was peaceful and that the musician voluntarily surrendered the car to protect his image.
