It was wise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to have abandoned the COV-19 project after testing the waters.
As a political project choreographed to whip up anger against the compilation of a new voters’ register through fear of the COV-19 disease, it was a pointer at the mileage the party can go to achieve its objective.
The implementation of the party’s Director of Elections’ admonition that all be done to stop the compilation of the new register is still in the works. With the other modules such as demonstrations and diabolic advocacy failing to deliver the objective, the COVID-19 appeared handy at first.
We were surprised they tried it at all. It just did not make sense toying with such a serious subject. It presented them as a group of politicians so hungry for power by all means they had lost their thinking caps. During times of desperation, the efficacy and ethics of ideas are not considered sufficiently before their adoption. That is what has afflicted the NDC. They could have contracted a political COV-19 themselves.
When they put out the COV-19 strategy on social media, their elders who still had their caps on quickly ordered them ‘pull it down’ lest we suffer an embarrassing aftermath. They listened.
Although the post was quickly pulled down, the taste its brief presence registered on our palates remain and adding to the negative impression most Ghanaians have about them. How sad!
The flag bearer of the party must be watchful of his utterances, especially those which can easily be compared with his earlier remarks.
We shall see more faux pas from the NDC as the election campaign heats up. After all, they are desperate and hungry for power and would pick anything, just in case.
It just did not make sense to ask that the planned compilation be abandoned because infected Electoral Commission (EC) and personnel, as they put it, would infect those who turn up to register. They also said those who queue up would be spreading the disease.
The NDC could be wishing that Ghana suffers the fate of others in the category of afflicted just because of their opposition to the compilation of a new voters’ register.
If a crop of people can hate a new voters’ register so much that they can wish for their own country negative occurrences such as a disease outbreak, what else can we write about such compatriots of ours?
