A two-day orientation retreat has been held for members of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Governing Council.
The retreat is to bring members up to speed on the operations of GIS. Chairman of the Governing Council, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, during the opening ceremony urged members of the Council to rally behind the leadership of the Service as they pursue the agenda of fuelling economic growth through enhanced security measures, including initiatives like the Feed Ghana project and the push for a 24-hour economy.
In a keynote speech delivered on behalf of the Minister for the Interior, Deputy
Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi extended his congratulations to the newly appointed members of the GIS Council and underscored the pivotal role of the GIS within the National Security framework. He emphasised the critical mandate of the Service in overseeing and controlling the movement of individuals across borders, safeguarding frontiers and territorial integrity, and managing the activities of foreign nationals.
Mr. Terlabi highlighted the importance of collaboration between Council members and GIS leadership to fulfil the institution’s mandate, stressing that shared insights and teamwork will fuel impactful progress and innovative solutions.
He voiced strong confidence that the Council’s discussions would produce
constructive outcomes, advancing the realisation of GIS’s goals, especially its efforts toward expansion. He further urged members to uphold a positive image of the GIS and Ghana as a whole by working cohesively and diligently in support of the vision to rejuvenate the organisation.
The Council Chair, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, thanked members for their commitment to serve and pledged the Council’s dedication to excellence in Service to the nation.
CGI Basintale Amadu, according to ACI Michael Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs, in a release, remarked that the retreat would provide an opportunity for the Governing Council members to gain deeper insight into the Service’s operations,
better comprehend ongoing challenges, and develop strategic plans to effectively address them.
