Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor
The Governing Council of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced the appointment of Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as the institution’s third Vice-Chancellor (VC).
This decision follows a meeting held by the special council on Monday, May 6, 2024. Prof. Mawutor is set to assume office on January 1, 2025, succeeding Prof. Abednego F.O. Amartey, who has led UPSA through eight years of remarkable growth and development and whose tenure ends on December 31, 2024.
Currently serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor at UPSA, Prof. Mawutor oversees the day-to-day administration of academic affairs. His tenure in this role has seen significant advancements in programme development, quality assurance, and educational efficiency at UPSA.
He has also championed faculty and student-centered initiatives to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
With over two decades of experience in academia and industry, Prof. Mawutor has held various leadership positions within UPSA, including Programme Coordinator, Vice-Dean, and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies from 2016 to 2022.
His contributions as Dean led to substantial growth in UPSA’s graduate programmes. Starting his career at UPSA as a Lecturer in 2008, Prof. Mawutor has steadily progressed through the ranks, earning promotions to Senior Lecturer in 2014 and Associate Professor in 2021.
He currently chairs several UPSA statutory committees and has a strong research background in accounting and finance, with numerous publications and conference presentations to his credit.
Beyond academia, Prof. Mawutor has actively contributed to national committees and boards, including roles at the Coastal Development Authority and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). He is also a respected financial expert, frequently appearing on television networks to share insights into financial matters affecting the nation.
Prof. Mawutor holds the title of Professor of Finance and is a Chartered Accountant affiliated with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
