Managing Director of the Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC), Dr. Chidia Madiekwe, has paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MoTAC), Dr. Ziblim Iddi Barry, in his office in Accra.
The visit was geared towards establishing collaboration between the film industries in the two countries.
Briefing the minister on the rationale behind his visit, Dr. Chidia disclosed that it was born out of how the two countries could collaborate to mutually benefit from the movie and film industry.
According to him, the movie and film business is a multi-billion dollar sector, and therefore, a concerted effort should be taken to derive the fullest gains in the industry.
Dr. Barry, on his part, indicated that the government of Ghana under President Akufo-Addo would be more than willing to embrace such initiatives in order to enhance the development of the sector.
He indicated that such collaboration would grant Ghana the opportunity to tap into the expertise of the Nigerian film industry, given that it has an edge over the country in terms of film production.
The minister, who commended the Nigerian delegation for taking such a step in ensuring that the economic prospect of the Ghana movie industry is fully achieved, added that the Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, has given her blessings to support this booming enterprise since creative arts sector is her priority agenda.
The deputy minister commended the Nigerian delegation for taking that bold step aiming at turning the economic prospect of the Ghanaian movie industry.
The Founding President of Ghana Black Star International Film Festival, Ms. Juliet Asante, who was at the meeting, stressed that Ghana and her outfit welcome any laudable initiative that would change the narrative in the Ghanaian movie industry.
Dr. Madiekwe was accompanied by Mr. Iyanda A. Abudulahi, a staff of NFC.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Director of MoTAC, Alhaji Abudulai Yakubu; the Director of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey, and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of MoTAC, Mr. Alhassan Abubakar Sadik.
