Membership of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has hit 10 million people covering over 517 medicines and various diseases.
This means that people registered with the policy could easily get medicines that would be prescribed for them through the NHIS programme.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NHIS, Barimah Sarpong, who made the disclosure, stated that the statistics looks impressive for the government policy.
According to him, aside medicine, the NHIS also covers hospital cards and folders, therefore, holders of the NHIS card should not pay for them at the hospital.
Mr. Sarpong entreated the public to treat rumours that the NHIS is not functioning properly as false, saying that NHIS is even stronger than ever now.
He said plans are in the pipeline to review the tariffs of its providers for the first time in four years to help boost their delivery.
