The world’s fifth largest automobile manufacturer, Nissan Motor Company Limited, has agreed to establish an assembly plant in Ghana through its branch in South Africa.
DAILY GUIDE understands that Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi-Boateng, negotiated the deal with the company in South Africa on October 24, 2018.
The High Commissioner met the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nissan South Africa, Mike Whitfield, who agreed to establish the plant in Ghana on behalf of the company.
No timeline has been given for the commencement of the construction of the plant, but it’s expected that it will benefit Ghana and the West African sub-region in general.
German automobile manufacturing company Volkswagen (VW), promised to set up an assembly plant in Ghana after the recent visit of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel to the country.
Sinotruk International, China’s first heavy-duty truck manufacturer, has also signed an agreement with the government of Ghana to establish an assembly plant in the country.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that in South Africa, Nissan offers 28 vehicles under the Nissan and Infiniti brands.
