Members of CLAAG together with Mr Osei-Ameyaw
The Executive Secretary of Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana (CLAAG) Kwaku Duah-Tawiah has indicated that the over two 200,000 lotto agents in the country can contribute huge sums of revenue to the consolidated fund.
He said the agents could contribute more revenue if they are properly regulated and provided with Point of Sale Terminals to work with.
Mr Duah-Tawiah made the remarks when he led a delegation of CLAAG members and some lotto agents to call on the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) Kofi Osei-Ameyaw to deliberate on issues pertaining to the association.
This follows the call made by the NLA to all lottery operators who are not regulated by NLA to come on board or face prosecution.
He said members of CLAAG are not nation wreckers and are willing to work with the NLA particularly on the Authority’s agenda to make its presence visible and accessible in every part of the country.
Mr Osei-Ameyaw reiterated that the NLA was not out to witch-hunt illegal lottery operators but was only wanting them to operate within the National Lotto Act, 2006 (ACT 722).
This Act he said mandates the NLA to regulate, supervise and conduct National Lotto, and its related matters.
He said the NLA will resource and provide Point of Sale Terminals for all CLAAG members but, asked them to submit a proposal stating their concerns following which the two parties can go on with further negotiations.
The Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana recently petitioned the government following an earlier one prior to the 2016 general elections to amend the National Lottery Act, 2006 (ACT 722) to include private sector participation in the lotto industry.
