Notorious Kidnapper Busted In Kumasi

Suspect Patrick Antwi Agyei in police custody

A 22-YEAR-old notorious kidnapper, who, allegedly, abducts school-going children and demand a ransom from their family before their release, has been arrested.

Patrick Antwi Agyei, the suspect, is reported to have been directly involved in two kidnapping cases in Kumasi, in the Ashanti regional capital, but he had always eluded the security agencies.

For instance, the suspect on December 6, 2025, allegedly, kidnapped a young girl at Kejetia and later abandoned her at Asenemanso, perhaps when he (Antwi Agyei) sensed that the security agencies were trailing him.

Also, on December 17, 2025, he kidnapped seven-year old Nathaniel Asamoah Omane and called his family to demand GH¢30,000 ransom, but he later abandoned the mission when he realised police were closing up on him.

Antwi Agyei, who is a resident of Asenemanso Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region, was eventually apprehended from his hideout by the Abuakwa Divisional Police on January 27, 2026, to face the law.

Abuakwa Divisional Police report, confirming the arrest, said “the Abuakwa Police on 27/01/2026 arrested one Antwi Agyei Patrick, aged 22 years, a resident of Asenemanso, Abuakwa, for his involvement in two kidnapping cases recorded in the metropolis.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime and is currently in police custody at Abuakwa, assisting with investigations. The suspect has been linked with two kidnapping cases in Kumasi but it’s not known if he has accomplices.

“On 17/12/2025 at about 1545 hours, one Felix Agyemang Duah of Abuakwa reported that his grandson, Nathaniel Asamoah Omane (7 years), failed to return home after school. The victim’s grandmother subsequently received a ransom demand of GH¢30,000.00 from an unknown person.

“Police tracked the suspect’s calls within Abuakwa, leading to the rescue of the victim at about 1930 hours at Anwiankwanta near Tanoso,” part of the police statement, which has been sighted by the paper, disclosed.

Preliminary investigations, the report said, established that the suspect abducted the child at the school bus drop-off point and later abandoned him upon realising he was being pursued by the police.

According to the police, “Further investigations revealed that the same suspect on 06/12/2025, kidnapped a young girl at Kejetia and later abandoned her at Asenemanso, a case which is under investigation by the Ashanti Central District.”
