Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim
The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim has cautioned party members contesting in the up-coming Regional Executives Election scheduled for April 2018 to conduct their campaigns with decency.
Speaking in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE in Bolgatanga, after picking his nomination forms to seek re-election as the regional party chairman, Mr Murtala appealed to NPP delegates across the region, to focus on the fortunes of the party and select the right people for the available positions, and not listen to the negative propaganda which is being deliberately spewed out to tarnish the image of all old regional executives.
“Some people have decided to paint all incumbent executives contesting for their positions, black. This is a bad and a lazy way of campaigning. Tell the people what you can do and don’t denigrate any of the aspirants – thinking you will be accepted and voted for after destroying others. What matters is the development of the NPP in this region and the expansion of its membership base.”
He believes that, he stands tall among all other aspirants interested in the Regional Chairmanship slot, saying, under his leadership, the NPP polled 34.99 percent of the total presidential votes cast in the region in 2016.
He indicated that, this time around, he had put in place measures to ensure that the party increases its parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region from three to eight, come 2020, and will intensify implementation of his plans if the delegates elect him again as the Regional Chairman.
According to him, he has gained some experience having led the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 general election as the Regional Chairman and therefore he is in a better position to lead the party into the 2020 general election and prevent obstacles that confronted the party in the 2016 general election and implement lessons learnt for the party’s victory.
Chairman Murtala was elected as the Regional first Vice Chairman in 2014 and in 2016, he took over as the Regional Chairman after the death of Chairman Mahama Adams.
