NPP Conference Starts Under Covid-19 Rules

THE RULING New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given the green light for its numerous members in the 275 constituencies in the country to start organising their annual Delegate’s Conference.

Per the party’s directive, all constituencies in the 16 regions are supposed to organise the conference, starting from Saturday, August 21 to Friday, August 27, 2021.

The NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, who made the announcement in a press statement, said party members should comply fully with the directive.

“The NPP will, from Saturday, August 21, 2021, to Friday, August 27, 2021, hold constituency annual delegates conference in all the 275 constituencies of the country in accordance with Article 7(27) of the party constitution.”

Importance of Conference

Significantly, the NPP holds the annual delegate’s conference in the 275 constituencies, scattered across the country, with the aim of ensuring and promoting the effective growth and unity of the party.

For instance, the party in the various constituencies, uses such important party programmes to take stock of their activities of the previous year and also plan for the proper growth of the party moving forward.

During such occasions, the party members, who are popularly referred to as the ‘Grassroot members’ or ‘owners of the party’, are given the rare opportunity to make contributions to the development of the party.

Also, the party’s financial spending during the past year, are announced so that party members would know whether the party is financially viable in the constituencies as a way to ensure transparency.

Strict COVID-19 Rules

John Boadu announced in the statement that the NPP has instituted measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the historic programme.

He said each constituency is mandated to organise the conference in batches either concurrently or at different times in open spaces so as to prevent overcrowding, which has the potential to spread COVID-19.

“Delegates/Attendees to each Constituency Conference shall not exceed 250 people. In other words, the conference shall be held in groups of 250 on the average, at the same or different venues within the constituency, depending on the constituency’s peculiarities,” the statement said.

He also declared that all the COVID-19 protocols such as the wearing of face masks, washing of hands with soap and running water and others, should be strictly adhered to.

“The party is assuring its members and the general public that it is taking all the necessary steps to ensure strict adherence to these guidelines in the conduct of the constituency conferences across the country,” Mr. Boadu stated.
