NPP Displays 2020 Arsenals

Peter Mac Manu

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is ready to hit the ground running with its 2020 electioneering campaign.

This follows the presentation of a detailed campaign team to the National Executive Council (NEC) by the Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu, at a programme last week.

Mr. Mac Manu, who successfully led the party to victory in 2016, has once again been given the opportunity to prove his mettle with his reappointment as Campaign Manager to lead the NPP’s charge for the 2020 polls.

He will be deputized by the Minister for Zongo Development, Alhaji Mustapha Hamid, who will be in charge of communication, with the Director of Operations at the Presidency, Lord Commey, who, as another deputy, will be in charge of the President’s campaign operations. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GIPA), Afua Asabea Asare, will be the deputy in charge of fundraising.

Also in the structure is the Campaign Advisory Team which would be chaired by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, with President Akufo-Addo, who has been unanimously acclaimed by the party as its candidate for the 2020 election, NPP National Chairman Freddie Blay, Chairman of the party and Chairman of the Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, and a host of others as members.

The Manifesto Committee will be chaired by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, who continues to be a torn in the flesh of the NDC.

Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, CEO of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Yoofi Grant; Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, Agric Minister Akoto Afriyie, and a host of others are members.

The Operations and Logistics leg of the campaign will be led by the party General Secretary, John Boadu, who has been appointed as Director of Operations, with NPP National Organizer Sammi Awuku as his deputy, while National Youth Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, National Women Organizer Kate Gyamfuah, Nasara Coordinator Aziz Futa and Ato Williams, who was previously in charge of logistics, will serve as members with some others.

Sammi Awuku has also been put in charge of Mobilization and V20, a group of professionals in the party, as director, with Andrews Frimpong as his deputy, while Youth Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, Kate Gyamfuah, Aziz Futa and others will serve as members.

A team has also been set up for the purpose of Conflict Resolution to be chaired by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, with Campaign Manage Peter Mac Manu and Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, as members, while the legal team will be chaired by lawyer Frank Davies, ably supported by Garry Nimako and a host of other legal brains in the party.

With this, all seem set for the NPP and President Akufo-Addo to retain power come December 2020 when the nation heads for the polls to elect a President and Members of Parliament.

The President and the NPP are banking their hopes on their various achievements in government, including the introduction and implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, One Village One Dam, One District One Factory, restoration of trainee teachers and nurses allowance, prudent management of the economy and others to win the upcoming elections.

On the other hand, the NDC and its candidate, former President Mahama, are grappling with a campaign message to win the hearts of Ghanaians except promising to revise some of the policies and programmes being implemented by the NPP.
