NPP Flagbearer Primary: Oppong Nkrumah Explains Akufo-Addo’s Absence

Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has explained the rationale behind the absence of former President Nana Akufo-Addo during the flagbearer election.

Speaking to journalists at the party headquarters, Oppong Nkrumah indicated that the former President did not vote because of his aim of unifying the five candidates.

“Yes, Nana Addo did not come out to vote today because his aim is to ensure that the various contenders are United after the party election reason for his absence,” he said.

Oppong Nkrumah further indicated that after the declaration of the official result by the electoral commission, former President Akufo-Addo among party elders will meet the various contenders.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged victorious in the NPP presidential primary, securing a win in several constituencies, including Takoradi, where he polled 462 votes against Kennedy Agyapong’s 96 votes.

The victory has been hailed as a “resounding win” by former Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who congratulated Dr. Bawumia and urged party members to rally behind him for the 2028 general election.
