The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sent felicitations to Muslims in the country as they celebrate Eid Ul Adha today.
The message authored by the NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, referred to the importance of the occasion which marks the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The highlight of today’s activities is the symbolic slaughtering of sheep, cows or camels.
Ordinarily, the General Secretary observed “this day see some millions of Muslims worldwide who have made it to the Holy Land of Makkah move from Mina to Mount Arafat, also known as Mount of Mercy for the most important part of the Hajj pilgrimage.”
The unusual times occasioned by COVID-19, he noted, has dictated the restriction of the annual pilgrimage to only Muslims within the Saudi Kingdom, adding “we are not in normal times indeed.”
Today, he pointed out, Eid Ul Adha is being observed as a rite following the ascent and descent of Mount Arafat as part of the Hajj rites.
As a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim famous sacrifice to Almighty Allah he said, “NPP is pleased to wish all Muslims the very best in these celebrations both of which mark important milestones on the Islamic calendar.”
The party was quick to demand of Muslims however, “to reflect on their sacrifices, first of all, to their Maker, and then to fellow humans and to society at large.”
The NPP appealed to Muslims on the occasion to “renew their covenant with Almighty Allah and to say special prayers for the world and Ghana in particular, to contain and ultimately defeat the novel coronavirus.
This too, he recalled President Akufo-Addo’s words, “shall pass to the glory of Allah and country.”
