Krach iNchumuru District Police Commander, DSP Gyan Mantey Frimpong
The police at Krachi Nchumuru are looking for five persons whom they suspect to have broken into the Krachi Nchumuru District Electoral Commission Office in the Oti Region and carted ballot papers away.
The papers were the ones the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National democratic Congress (NDC) used to select their respective parliamentary candidates for the 2020 election.
The suspects are said to have broken into the EC office at about 1:45 am on Monday and beaten one Philip Kholi, a security man on duty, before carting the papers away.
Following a distress call, the police rushed to the scene and found the security man lying unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby health facility and was later referred to the Kete Krachi Government Hospital.
The Krachi Nchumuru District Police Commander, DSP Gyan Mantey Frimpong, confirmed the incident and said the police were investigating the matter.
He said the ballot papers were later found in an uncompleted building about 60 metres from the crime scene. He added that the police would give their topmost attention to the case to ensure that the perpetuators are brought to book. He encouraged the public to assist the police with any information on the matter.
The District Electoral Officer confirmed that even though the office was ransacked, the only items that were taken away were the ballot boxes containing the said ballot papers.
DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the action may be linked to the Krachi Nchumuru NPP parliamentary primaries, as some of the candidates continue to challenge the results of the primaries.
