Alexander Afenyo-Markin
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to campaign vigorously to ensure the NPP wins majority seats in Parliament in the next general elections.
“I am calling on all the PCs and party members to go out and ‘fight’ for the party to ensure the NPP wins the presidential election and also more seats,” he added.
He pointed out that the current Akufo-Addo administration struggled in Parliament because of the even numbers in the House, adding “This should not happen again”.
“We need our numbers in Parliament. Let us get our numbers and win together.”
He, therefore, appealed to the party members to set aside their differences and focus on securing victory in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing the NPP’s 2024 manifesto launch in Takoradi last Sunday the majority leader said “There’s no time to settle disputes; let’s get to work”.
“We have a few months ahead of us. I want to encourage you to make yourselves available to support the cause of government. Let’s finish strong; there’s a prize ahead of us.”
“Enough of the reconciliation, go out there and fight for the party”, the Effutu lawmaker indicated.
He made it clear that the running mate of the NPP, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has the ability to help transform Ghana despite the effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to brand him as arrogant.
He recounted that the NDC did the same to President Akufo-Addo when he was a candidate but that did not work.
“We know you tagged Akufo-Addo also as arrogance but it didn’t work He is ready to transform Ghana with arrogance,” he said.
“Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh will help Dr. Bawumia to transform Ghana whether he is arrogant or not,” he added.
For his part, the Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, Francis Ndede Siah emphasised that the 2024 manifesto document of the party contains measures to achieve progress and economic growth.
In his welcome address chairman Ndede Siah stated, “The manifesto provides innovative ways to achieve progress. Today will go down in history as the day NPP laid the foundation to break the 8 to secure the country’s future.”
