The New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday announced guidelines and regulations for conducting its 2026 internal elections in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

Addressing journalists yesterday at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, said the rules and regulations affirm the party’s enduring commitment to democratic values, credible competition and equal opportunities for all aspirants.

He said the internal elections form part of a broader strategy necessary to rebuild, reorganise, and reposition the party to hold credible and merit-based elections of dedicated, competent, and principled officers to manage its affairs at all levels, with an overarching objective to win the 2028 elections.

The General Secretary said prior to starting its internal elections, the party will begin with the registration of members from March 1 to 31 at the respective polling stations where members vote during national elections.

Among the positions members are eligible to contest at the polling station level  are  Polling Station Chairperson, Polling Station Secretary,  Polling Station Organiser, Polling Station Women Organiser, Polling Station Youth Organiser, Polling Station Electoral Affairs Officer and Polling Station Communications Officer.

According to him, only members of the party whose names are captured in the Polling Station Register and have paid their membership dues for at least one year before the elections are eligible to vote.

He said the party will soon open nominations for its national executive elections from August 10 to 14, 2026, with filing of nomination forms from August 15 to 17, 2026. Vetting of aspirants starts from August 23, 2026, climaxing with the national executive elections on September 18, 2026.

The General Secretary noted that the party will also hold electoral area executive committee elections, constituency executive committee elections, chapter and external branch elections as well as regional executive elections in line with Article 18 and other relevant provisions of the party’s constitution.

“Pursuant to Article 10(2) of the Party Constitution, the National Executives Elections shall be conducted at a National Delegates Conference. The elections shall be supervised by a National Elections Committee to be composed as follows: three representatives appointed by the National Executive Committee (NEC), one of whom shall be the Chairperson, National Council of Elders Chairperson, The Director of Electoral Affairs, two (2) elderly women appointed by the National Executive Committee and the Director of IT,” he stressed.

Touching on the national officers  election, he said nomination fee is pegged at GH¢50,000 for National Chairman; Vice Chairpersons, GH¢30,000; General Secretary, GH¢25,000; and  all other positions are GH¢10,000, with Special Wings of the party such as Nasara, Women, Youth and Persons With Disabilities nomination fee pegged at GH¢8,000.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong added that all aspirants are required to campaign on issues and refrain from levelling unsubstantiated allegations, personal attacks and vilifications against their opponents, as well as desist from undertaking any activity that will polarise members along tribal, religious and other factional lines.

He mentioned that members of  the party could also contest for  Regional 1st Vice Chairman,  Regional 2nd Vice Chairman,  Regional Secretary, Deputy Regional Secretary, Regional Treasurer, Regional Organiser,  Regional Women Organiser,  Regional Youth Organiser,  Regional Nasara Organiser  as well as  Regional Communication Officer.

The party further indicated that the leadership has resolved to undertake comprehensive reforms to strengthen its internal democratic processes given the findings and recommendations of the Oquaye Election Review Committee on the party’s 2024 electoral performance, especially concerns about the delegates system and organisational structure.
