Zongo Women for NPP, a women’s group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has embarked on a spiritual exercise seeking a peaceful election that will have the NPP emerge as victor in December.
The spiritual intervention, which coincided with the commencement of the Islamic new year, had members engage in a two-day fast that was climaxed with the recitation of the Quran at the Kawokudi Park in Accra on Saturday, the tenth day of the first Islamic month.
Speaking in an interview, the president of the group, Hajia Barikisu Seidu, said prayer was important in every human endeavor and for that reason the desire for citizens to continuously enjoy sustainable peace in the country would require the constant intervention of God.
She advised Muslim youth in the Zongo communities to shun political violence that may be championed by individuals with personal interests that conflict with national interest.
“If anyone tells you to go for a ballot box, tell the person to let his children go for the box and see if he will do that. Let them understand that the youth in the Zongo communities are enlightened,” she said.
She was optimistic that the NPP would garner more votes in the upcoming election based on its enviable records of social interventions rolled out by the government to improve the lives of citizens.
A member of the group, Dr. Nasiba Tahir, encouraged women in the Zongo communities to rally behind the party which had duly recognized the contribution of inhabitants of the Zongo communities and had shown commitment to solving their plights.
It therefore behooves on well-meaning Ghanaians, she said, to vote for the party that had contributed to their wellbeing.
“If you are asked what the party has done for you, let them understand that the NPP government has given you peace, dignity and due recognition as a woman and a Muslim,” she said.
