Alhaji Rufai Vellim with Sofo Azorka at the Police Headquarters in Tamale
The Northern Regional First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Rufai Vellim, has been granted bail by the Northern Regional Police Command.
The Northern Regional First Vice Chairman of the NDC was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting at the party office by some youth believed to be affiliated with the NDC.
The residence of the NDC’s first vice chairman was also searched after his arrest by the police but nothing was found.
The Northern Regional Police Command has asked the suspect to report to the police station daily to assist in their investigations.
On August 23, 2022, some youth believed to be affiliated with the NDC attacked the regional party office in Tamale in the Northern region.
The angry youth destroyed some party properties and fired gunshots to register their displeasure over the appointment of Ali Adolf as the acting Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC after the demise of the late Ibrahim Mobila.
DGN Online gathered that the youth who were in red bands allegedly made away with a laptop and some undisclosed amount of money belonging to the party.
The angry youth are of the view that the party is imposing Mr. Ali Adolf onto them instead of appointing the First Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Rufai Vellim as the acting regional chairman.
On August 17, 2022, the Regional Functional Executive Committee of the NDC appointed Mr. Ali Adolf as the acting Northern Regional Chairman of the party.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional First Vice Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Rufai Vellim, confirmed that he was invited by the police and that he was later released.
He, however, called on party supporters to remain calm and ensure that they work tirelessly to bring back the party to power come 2024.
